Cynthia "Cindy" B. Sanders, Promoted to County Extension Director:

Cynthia “Cindy” B. Sanders has been promoted to the Alachua County Extension Director position effective November 2nd.

Cindy has been a Livestock Agent for the Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office for the past six years.   During this time, she was responsible for planning and implementing livestock related Extension programming, providing solutions to producers within Alachua County and working with 4-H youth that held interest in livestock projects.  Cindy’s integral part of extension education has been in the development of the Alachua County Master Cattlemen Program, forage programs and implementing the annual Alachua County Youth Fair & Livestock Show.  Her previous work experiences have ranged from growing up on a cow/calf operation, ranch manager, teaching high school agriculture, agricultural sales representative, and as a meat processing supervisor.

She has presented and spoken to numerous professional conferences at the state level and also published a refereed journal article in the Journal of Extension.  Cindy was also awarded the Outstanding Youth Professional by the Florida Association of County Agricultural Agents.

Cindy’s life long experience and dedication with Extension has played a part in her family for over three generations and will be a great asset for the future of Alachua County Cooperative Extension.

Welcome New 4-H Agent, Ernie Terry

The Alachua County Extension Office is proud to announce that Ernie Terry assumed the 4-H Agent position on July 27th, which was recently vacated by Bill Heltemes, who served in that position for over 23 years. Ernie waErnie Terrys raised in Madison County, Florida and received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Florida.

Ernie has taught school in Alachua County for the past two years; one year at the Waldo Elementary School and the other year at Kimball Wiles Elementary School. For the period 2000-05, he operated a supplemmental education center and served as the Extension 4-H Agent for Putnam County from 1992 through 1999.
