All About Insects Camp: June 5-9, 2017
Ages: 9-12
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Description: Fascinated by insects & want to learn more? Spend the week learning all about all things insect, including pollinators, aquatic bugs, and gardening to attract beneficial insects. By the end of the week, you'll have a great appreciation for our buggy friends, and come away with everything you need to start your own insect collection and continue your entomology adventures. Participants must wear closed-toed shoes and bring a bagged lunch; fee includes bug collecting equipment, field trips and snacks. Limited to 15 campers.

Archery Summer Camp: June 12-16, 2017
Ages: 8-18

Description: This is a camp to learn the fundamentals of archery and work on the skills as they are developed. Novice campers can learn an exciting new skill. Experienced campers can work to improve their skill set. Limited to 10 campers.

All About Animals: June 19-22, 2017
Ages: 6-8
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Description:  The All About Animals Day Camp is an opportunity for children to learn about animal science and environmental education in a unique way! The camp is divided into four parts: farm animals, Florida wildlife, marine animals, and pets! This day camp ends with a trip to the Santa Fe Zoo on Friday. Snacks and all entry fees are provided. Participants must bring a bagged lunch (except for Friday) and wear closed toed shoes.

Air Riffle Camp: July 17-21, 2017

Description: This camp is designed to teach the fundamentals of SAFE SHOOTING with an Air Rifle. Campers will learn basic shooting positions along with cleaning and care of the equipment (which is provided.) Class is limited to 6 campers.

Wilderness Survival: July 17 & 18, 2017
Time: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Description:  This camp will offer outdoor activities that will be helpful for kids interested in hiking/camping. Skills will include rope tying, fire starting, compass reading, finding wild edibles, first aid and more. Campers will compete in an obstacle course that will test their knowledge of and competency with wilderness survival skills.

Farm to Fork: July 19-21, 2017

Aqua Adventure Camp: July 24-28, 2017

Description:  Dive in and learn all about local water! Where does our water come from and where does it go? We’ll explore these questions and more while taking time to splash and play in some of our favorite local swimming holes. Learn how you can be a solution to stormwater pollution and a cool conservation cat to help protect our beautiful and important water! This camp is for kids who can swim and like to have fun and learn. Bring a towel and your thinking cap. Participants must bring a bagged lunch. Snacks provided. Limited to 15 campers.

Shotgun Camp: August 7-11, 2017

Description:  In this camp youth learn shooting safety in a well supervised environment by certified instructors. Cost varies, depending on the class level, $46 - $170. 1: BEGINNERS - a chance to decide if the child will like it, no prior experience needed. Will shoot 1 round per day for 3 days $46.00 2: ADVANCED: if the shooter decides to stay for the rest of the week, they will pay for three rounds: one round Thursday and two on Friday (Tournament). Additional cost $46.00 3: EXPERIENCED, have been through the 4-H course and will shoot 2 rounds per day and three on Friday (Tournament). cost $170.00

Crafty Kids: TBA (August)

Description: Come join us for our annual day of summer crafting! Round robin of 25-30 crafts will keep you hopping and give you some great items to go home with. Similar to the Holiday Crafts Workshop, but crafts will be more summer oriented. Will give you lots of ideas to craft all summer!! Includes supplies, snacks and lunch. Ages 5-9 must be accompanied by adult.

2017 4-H Camp Counselor

Welcome to the 2017 4-H Camp Counselor Program!  If you are interested in becoming a 4-H Camp Counselor, please complete the form and return it by April 1, 2017.

You can submit by email to me or you can print the form and fax it to 352-334-0122 or mail it to the Extension Office (2800 NE 39 Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32609).

Who can be a 4-H Camp Counselor?

4-H members who are 13-18 years old may be a counselor. Please note that your 4-H age (as of September 1, 2013) must be 13.  Camp Counselors who are ages 13-14 may be Counselors in Training (CIT).

What do Camp Counselors do?

Camp Counselors support camp instructors and facilitates daytime camp activities and supervises campers. He/she is responsbile for knowing the whereabouts of each camper in his/her charge at all times during duty hours. Counselors also assist with other assigned tasks during the week of Camp.

Camp Counselor Training:

Counselors must participate in three trainings. Trainings are mandatory! Listed below are the 2017 training dates, times and locations:

- April 11, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Alachua County Extension Office
- May 25, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Alachua County Extension Office
- June 24, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Camp Cherry Lake (make-up     date for this is May 20)
- Camp: July 10-14, 2017

Area scholarships available?

Yes! We have a matching summer scholarship program. Alachua 4-H will match funds up to $100 for a camp but the youth member has to come up with the other $100 from their club or another sponsor. An application for this is below.  You must be an active 4-H member to apply.
